Boomafricatv Interview With One of Nigeria’s Popular DJ – “3ple7dj”

We want to know you better. Who is 3ple7dj? 3ple7dj is a brand, he’s an entertainer, a disk jockey that mix record to create a very nice Atmosphere for people to dance and have a nice time through music. That’s who 3ple7dj is 😂

How did it all start for you? When did you start DJing – and what or who were your early passions and influences? I started Dj 9 to 8 years ago and it all started like a joke when I was still selling CDs in Ojuelegba back then. During that period I just gained admission into the university of Lagos back then, and still hustling. But had to pause my admission for my career and also there was no fund either to pay for my admission. So it all started selling CDs, getting to know a particular guy who was bringing CD mix for me to sell for him, and I asked him if he was the one mixing, he said yes. So I told him If he could teach me? He accepted to teach me but on a condition to pay for it. So I agreed to pay so that’s how it all began for me.

Who is your biggest inspiration? / Who do you have a lot of respect for? Dj Neptune, I respect him a lot regardless of our distance.

What single night out has been the most memorable for you? As a DJ? The funky brunch Lagos. It will always be a memorable occasion for me.

What is one mistake you see a lot of up and coming DJs making? / What advice would you give to aspiring DJs? Pride, money, imitation and impatient. They should take this four{4} things off if they want to succeed more in the craft called Djing.

Where do you think the scene is headed? One year from now? Five years from now?Well that I put in the hands God, as long i keep working nothing more but elevation.

If you could eternally be stuck in one year’s music scene, which year would it be? 2019 {smile}

What is one subgenre you think doesn’t get the attention it deserves? Dancehall {smile}

What is it that you love about the scene? Your subgenres scene? Realness {smile}

What is something that bugs you about the DJ scene? Inability to help one another as Djs, Faking , Pride, Hating, etc. This are the major problems I see we Nigeria Dj are having. There’s more but this is just the few I notice and I can quickly recall.

(Perhaps a little bit deeper of a question) What is your opinion regarding the difference between old school DJing where everything was restricted to vinyl and modern DJing where most tracks are never put on any physical medium before or after release? Well to the best of my knowledge back in those days Djing was quite original, every thing about the craft was real. Though not saying is not real now too. Just saying back in those days, if is not on radio, then to record vinyl a Dj can play a gig, then you actually need to go and find them to buy or have a friend in the radio who you can get the latest from. On like now the internet has made it easier for record to go on circulation. Now, before radio gets a jam the internet has already made it popular.

Do you think this has hurt exclusivity of having a certain sound? A DJ’s ability to have a “unique” style? Is having your own style separate from all the other DJs out there even important in modern DJing?

What are currently your main challenges as a DJ? Promotion wise, cos money is needed. If you don’t promote your brand as a Dj the industry won’t recognize you. So promotion is my major problem and is very high and costly. Then Getting the right People to work with or invest you as a Dj is another major problem. Every body wants to work with the known. The body wants to build. This are my major major wahala I am facing.

What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it? Mr May D – You gat me high. Banger for me any day any time.

What is one track that got popular that you can’t stand? Soft – money.

Do you feel a crowd is actually able to appreciate the intricacies of complex DJing, if they don’t actually know what, precisely, is happening behind the decks? Yea they do appreciate, after all any one that feels Djing is an easy job should come and have a feel of it too. Sure they do, now the big BUT is how you handle your crowd. Cos some crowd can be frustrating 😂.
